Ukyo Sasahara has been on the feeder series ladder since 2013, but he definitely booked his greatest victory in 2019 by winning the F3 Asia Championship with Hitech GP. We had a chat with him about that successful year and his 2020 goals.

The Japanese driver has been in the junior single-seater categories for a while now, debuting in 2013 in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Eurocup. His first succes came in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC when he finished third in the championship ahead of guys like Jehan Daruvala and Nikita Mazepin.
In 2017 Sasahara made the step to Asia and that proved to be vital for his career. That year he finished second in the F4 Japanese Championship, outscoring Yuki Tsunoda for instance. The year after he made the step up to Japanese F3 and took third in the final standings. 2019 would prove to be his most successful year in car racing. The now 23-year old driver was crowned F3 Asia champion and he won the GT Cup at the FIA Motorsport Games.
